Practice:

Veterinary Hospital at the Lake provides full-service small animal care to Sherrils Ford, NC and the surrouding communities.

We are also home to the region’s only referral specialty center for small animal reproduction. Our board-certified specialists in reproduction, called theriogenologists, partner with our breeder clients and their primary care veterinarians to provide their pets with expertise and compassionate care in male and female reproduction and neonatology.

Position Purpose:

Our unique practice has a great opportunity offering the full complement of theriogenology services regionally, in addition to general medicine & surgery locally.  

Our professional team consists of two boarded theriogenologist and one part-time general practitioning associate. We are excited to add another theriogenologist to our team!

Our ideal candidate is skilled in SA general medicine and surgery and has a passion and appreciation for theriogenology. Board-certification and experience in theriogenology are also desired. Whatis required is a willingness to embrace the world of purpose-bred dogs. Mentorship and on-the-job training will be provided.  Efforts at board certification will be supported. Our specialty work allows our general practice access to state-of-the-art equipment often found only in referral hospitals.

About the area:Sherrills Ford, NCboasts one of the highest quality-of-life-rated locales nationwide. Situated at the northwest corner of Lake Norman in North Carolina, Veterinary Specialties at the Lakesits near the banks of a lovely lake, is close to Charlotte (with an international airport), with Asheville & the Blue Ridge mountains an hour to our west and the beach 3.5 hours southeast. We enjoy all four seasons but rarely shovel snow!

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
  • Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
  • Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
  • Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
  • Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
  • Maintain patients’ medical records.
  • Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications:
  • DVM/VMD degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
  • Appropriate state licensure.
  • Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
