Position Purpose:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Veterinary Pharmacy Technician to manage the internal pharmacy and support our veterinary team. In this role, you’ll assist veterinarians and technicians by accurately preparing and dispensing medications, ensuring compliance with DEA regulations, and maintaining meticulous pharmacy records. Strong customer service skills are essential as you will work directly with pet owners to provide guidance on medication use and answer their questions.

This position requires a solid understanding of pharmacology, medical documentation, and veterinary protocols. Proficiency in inventory management, budget awareness, and a proactive approach to maintaining stock are also critical for success.

  • Client Satisfaction: Ensuring all activities and interactions result in the highest level of client satisfaction.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and Dispense Medications: Accurately fill prescriptions for animals, ensuring correct dosages, labels, and instructions as per veterinarian orders.

  • Inventory Management: Monitor, order, and maintain pharmacy stock, including prescription medications, over-the-counter products, and compounding supplies.

  • Prescription Review and Verification: Review prescriptions to ensure accuracy and clarity, verifying details with veterinarians if necessary.

  • Medication Compounding: Prepare customized medication formulations for animals, which may include tablets, liquids, or topical applications.

  • Maintain Pharmacy Records: Document all dispensed medications and maintain organized, up-to-date records as required by regulatory bodies.

  • Client Education and Assistance: Educate pet owners on proper medication administration and answer questions related to dosage, storage, and side effects.

  • Safety and Compliance: Follow all veterinary and pharmacy laws, regulations, and clinic policies to ensure safe handling, labeling, and storage of medications.

  • Work Collaboratively with Veterinary Team: Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians to provide seamless care, ensuring medication readiness for appointments and procedures.

  • Any other duties as assigned.

Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Ability to work on weekends as required
  • Previous veterinary experience preferred
  • Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance
  • Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE
  • Basic math and the ability to calculate medication dosages
  • Basic computer skills, familiarity with MS office applications, etc.
  • Well versed in pharmacology

  • Knowledge of DEA rules and regulations

  • Possess a great customer service skillset

Pay Range: USD $17.00 - USD $19.00 /Hr.
