Position Purpose

Reporting to Heartland’s Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant will assist with the monthly close process by preparing journal entries, doing internal control account reconciliations, conducting variance analysis, and other tasks as assigned. This is a hybrid in-office role located at our offices in Chicago, IL.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and complete monthly close activities, ensuring financial statements are accurately and appropriately stated. These activities include:
    • Book monthly journal entries
    • Gather and analyze data in order to record month-end accruals
    • Prepare purchase accounting journal entries with acquisition of each new practice
    • Assist with preparation and analysis of internal financial statements. Be able to identify and explain fluctuations.
  • Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations. Have ability to understand and develop action plans for variances.
  • Assist with year-end financial audit - preparing supporting documentation and responding to auditor requests
  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls
  • Support Operations Team by providing insightful, actionable, and accurate financial analysis when needed.
  • Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and efficiencies within Finance department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, including special projects.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Strong Excel skills, including experience with pivot tables and VLOOKUP’s.
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize responsibilities and manage workload effectively
  • Ability to work well on a team
  • 1 - 3 years accounting experience
  • CPA or pursuing CPA a plus
  • Experience with Sage Intacct a plus
  • Healthcare and/or facilities-based background a plus
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Effective communication skills in dealing with internal and external customers

Pay Range:

USD $60,000.00 - USD $75,000.00 /Yr.
